What is Short Term Respite STR
Formerly - STA Short Term Accommodation

Respite care is a form of short-term temporary overnight support for individuals with disabilities. It allows their primary caregivers a break to focus on their own well-being or other priorities, while ensuring the person they care for receives high- quality care and professional assistance in a safe and supportive environment. Respite care can occur in various settings depending on the participants needs and preferences.
Types of Respite Care
In-Home Respite – Care is provided in the participant’s home. Professional carers take over duties temporarily, ensuring a familiar and comfortable environment.
Short- Term Respite (STR) – Participants are cared for in respite accommodation, community centre, or other approved homes in an individual or shared group setting.
Emergency Respite – Immediate care available during unforeseen circumstances, such as illness or emergencies affecting the caregiver.
How it works
Duration – The NDIS may fund up to 28 days of Short-Term Respite per year, which can be used flexibly- for instance in blocks of up to 14 days or one weekend a month.
Inclusions – Short-Term Respite includes personalised support, overnight accomodation, assistance with all daily care needs, and goal based home or community activities.
Accessing Short-Term Respite through the NDIS – Review your NDIS funding plan to ensure it includes Short-term Respite under the appropriate categories. Consult with your Support Coordinators, Local Area Coordinator (LAC), or Early Childhood Partner, to determine the best approach to include STR in your plan.

We organise enjoyable activities such as arts and crafts, games, movie nights, and outdoor adventures to keep you entertained and engaged. Our respite programs can build friendships and a wonderful sense of community by supporting your social interactions.
